The purpose of the consortium is to collaborate on recruiting venues that connect students and employers. This is accomplished through various e-fairs and the annual Big East Career Fair:
Officially established as a nonprofit entity in January 2008, the consortium sponsored its first event in March 2004, the inaugural Big East E-Fair. The venture was so successful that a career fair was planned. The following March, during the Big East men’s basketball tournament at Madison Square Garden, we sponsored our first live career fair with 80 employers and 650 students and alumni. Since then, our live fair has grown to 100 - 150 employers and almost 2000 students and alumni. For Fall 2012 we will be offering a Big East Virtual Fair in to run in November.
In addition to these successful events, the consortium sponsors an annual meeting in New York, a summer symposium, 6-8 conference calls throughout the year, professional development opportunities for staff members, discounts on software products, and reciprocal services for students and alumni who relocate from their home school to other Big East school locations.
